Highlights: Professional grade DAM for photos and other digital data. If you are tired of giant corporation Adobe’s proprietary formats and don’t want to pay their “Creative Cloud” monthly fees forever, then check out IMatch. Software support for IMatch is amazing too. If you have a lot of photos, PDF files, MP3s, (and many other types of digital files) and are wondering how to make order out of chaos, then this is really one of the best tools for the job. I’ve been using it for over 6 months now and have used IMatch’s impressive keyword tagging system to catalogue a portion of my collection. Priced at $110 USD, IMatch is not cheap, but nor is it expensive when compared to other DAM software. IMatch 5 is relatively easy to use, yet has powerful features beyond the needs of most users, and is regularly updated with new features and bug fixes (there’s few bugs to fix). IMatch is the work of Mario Westphal in Germany who brilliantly and single-handedly created a powerful program that rivals the best that huge corporations can produce. Summary: As you may guess, I’m recommending IMatch 5 as an outstanding DAM application. If this sounds like your situation, then you need to take control of your data with a DAM application. There’s not much point having a rare photo collection if you cannot find anything in it. Unless you have a system for organizing and cataloguing data, your collection will soon become unmanageable and you’ll not be able to find the photo, video clip or file that you need. Social science researchers using photography and video as integral parts of their research will soon accumulate very large collections of images, video, audio and text files. While not able to import video files' keywords isn't a deal breaker, but if I don't need to retag 400ish files that scattered in different time, its still a chore and I prefer to avoid it if possible. I will definitely try to use the Metadata analyst in your program and try to see what I can find out. And yes, I choose Lr to put keywords to the sidecar files but it doesn't apply to movie files. Oddly enough, iMatch do able to see ONE single movie file's keyword (out of 400ish) as I mentioned and I can't figure out how that happen, otherwise I will do the same thing to all my movie files. That's why I was concern about the Lr migration app and hope that will actually able to apply keywords from the Lr catalog to the movie file like the other 2 applications - Photo Supreme and ACDSee does - these 2 application able to retrieve most of the keywords for my movie files when I choose to import Lr database. ![]() So if iMatch only rely on the sidecar file or the info inside the file, iMatch should not see any keyword and I understand that. It even stated that other application cannot see the keywords of movie files. This also runs ExifTool on the video file and shows you the metadata contained in the video and optional XMP sidecar file.Īccording to what I find on internet, the best I can do, Lr does not write movie sidecar files nor into the file itself and only put the keywords info in their Catalog database and that's it. Use the IMatch Metadata Analyst (in the App Manager Panel) to check your video files and metadata for problems. By default Lr keeps all metadata inside the catalog, inaccessible for other software.Ģ. Make sure Lr has actually written the keywords to the file or XMP sidecar file. So iMatch create sidecar files for movies and PDFs if I want to keyword them?ġ. Special IMatch metadata like categories or collections can be exported into multiple formats, and even copied into suitable XMP metadata tags using built-in tools like the Metadata Mechanic or Metadata Templates. ![]()
